Fees and Payments

Fees and payment details

Please note:
  • that all fees are Euro based, so may fluctuate with the exchange rate. Please contact the Consulate to confirm exact cost in rands. (germanconsulatedbn@caraville.com, or Tel 031 266 3920)
  • that there are two fee components: the Euro visa fee charged by Germany , as well as the ZAR handling/return courier fee charged by the consulate.
  • Certain fee concessions for direct bank transfers, children, registered travel agents and visa agencies, and spouses of EU citizens may apply as detailed below.

We apply fee reductions for electronic transfers. Nevertheless, we accept South African Rand cash payments at the time of application - however no cheque, cash or postal orders payments or deposits of same to our account are permissible. Should you nevertheless make a cheque or postal order deposit, your application can be delayed by up to 10 days, and an additional R 60 clearance penalty will apply.

Only a direct bank transfer (EFT) to the Consulate account is acceptable. A R 60 reduction to the visa/courier fee will then apply, namely R 160 (instead of R 220). A cash deposit to the bank account does not qualify for a reduction.

ELECTRONIC BANK TRANSFERS
EFT transfers are acceptable, provided:

  1. they are made at least 2 business days prior to the submission or at the latest on the day of your application
  2. the original proof of payment accompanies your application
  3. IMPORTANT: your payment must be referenced with your surname when doing the EFT
  4. Cheque or postal order deposits are not permissible
  5. Cash deposits do not qualify for the fee reduction

PAYMENT CONCESSIONS
Under certain circumstances the following fee reductions may apply:
  1. electronic bank transfers - a reduction of R 60 to the administrative/return courier fee making it R 160 (instead of 220) per application
  2. group applications of 8 or more visas - request details when applying and making an appointment
  3. registered commercial Travel or Visa Agents who submit regular applications and pay by electronic transfer, and further subject to a once off application for accreditation submitted on letterhead to the Consul can qualify for a commercial administrative/return courier fee reduction to ZAR 140 per applicant. Delivery services are acceptable, except where the visa applicant is a first time applicant. See the special notes on delivery services contained under NEWS on the home page
  4. "FREE" VISAS (depending on circumstances - the EUR portion only - not the handling/courier fee) may apply to:
    1. Spouses of EU citizens and their children may have the EUR portion of the visa fee waived if proof of the spouses EU passport is produced, and proof of the marriage by way of an unabridged marriage certificate is also presented. In the absence of either of the above, the fee reduction cannot be granted. The admin/two way courier fee is nevertheless payable.
    2. Children under 6 years
    3. Children of EU citizens not travelling on an EU passport, provided an unabridged birth certificate and passport of the EU parent is produced
    4. Scholars, students and teachers who require the visa for study purposes
    5. Those professionals who are travelling to the Schengen region for research purposes
    6. Invitees of German NGO’s and Government structures
    7. Members of foreign diplomatic Embassies,Consulates and certain International Organizations based in Germany, inclusive of members of their direct families
    Please note, however, that this fee concession applies to the Euro portion only - not the handling/courier charges.
